ACI Aggregate Testing Technician Level 1

2 – Half Days Course • 3 CPD Hours Available Upon Request

An Aggregate Testing Technician—Level 1 is an individual who has demonstrated the knowledge and ability to properly perform, record, and report the results of basic field and laboratory procedures for aggregates. . This course includes a half‑day review session that prepares examinees for both the written and performance exams required for ACI certification.

 

Required Knowledge

Participants must be familiar with the following ASTM standards:

  • AASHTO R 90-18/ASTM D75-03 – Standard Method of Test for Sampling of Aggregates
  • AASHTO R 76-16/ASTM C702/C702M-11 – Standard Method of Test for Reducing Samples of Aggregate to Testing Size
  • AASHTO T 11-05(13)/ASTM C117-13 – Standard Method of Test for Materials Finer than 75-µm (No. 200) Sieve in Mineral Aggregates by Washing
  • AASHTO T 27-14/ASTM C136-06 – Standard Method of Test for Sieve Analysis of Fine and Coarse Aggregates
  • AASHTO T 85-14/ASTM C127-12 – Standard Method of Test for Specific Gravity and Absorption of Coarse Aggregate
  • AASHTO T 84-13/ASTM C128-12 – Standard Method of Test for Specific Gravity and Absorption of Fine Aggregate
  • AASHTO T 255-00(12)/ASTM C566-97(04) – Standard Method of Test for Total Evaporable Moisture Content of Aggregate by Drying
  • AASHTO T 21/T 21M-15/ASTM C40/C40M-11 – Standard Method of Test for Organic Impurities in Fine Aggregates for Concrete

Certification Requirements

ACI will grant certification only to applicants who meet both of the following:

  • Achieve a passing score on the ACI written examination
  • Successfully complete the ACI performance examination

Written Exam:

  • Closed‑book (2 hours)
  • Approximately 100 multiple‑choice questions
  • At least eight questions from each required practice or test method
  • Passing requirements:
    • Minimum 60% on each practice/test method
    • Minimum 70% overall

Performance Exam:

  • Closed‑book
  • Candidates must demonstrate all required steps for each procedure
  • Evaluated on accuracy and proper execution

All examinations are returned and scored by ACI. Certification is valid for five years. Recertification requires successful completion of both exams again.

Cancellation Policy

  • All cancellations are subject to a $15 processing fee.
  • Cancellations must be made at least 7 days prior to the course start date for a refund.
  • No shows will be charged full registration fees.
  • No credits will be carried over to the next year.
  • A $15 late fee applies to registrations made within 7 days of the exam.
  • Classes may be canceled if minimum enrollment is not met; registrants will be notified at least one week in advance.
  • Course fees are subject to change.
