Description

ACI CONCRETE FIELD TESTING TECHNICIAN GRADE I (2-days) 6 CPD hrs.

The ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade I course will benefit all personnel involved in testing fresh concrete. ASTM C31, C94, and ACI 301 all require that technicians making and curing concrete test specimens for acceptance be certified ACI Concrete Field Testing Technicians. A working knowledge of the following ASTM Standards is required for this certification program: C-172 Sampling Freshly Mixed Concrete; C-143 Slump of Hydraulic Cement Concrete; C-138 Density (Unit Weight), Yield, & Air Content (Gravimetric) of Concrete; C-231 Air Content of Freshly Mixed Concrete by Pressure Method; C-173 Air Content of Freshly Mixed Concrete by Volumetric Method; C-31 Making and Curing Concrete Test Specimens in the Field; C-1064 Temperature of Freshly Mixed Portland Cement Concrete.

Ohio Concrete Professional Engineers conduct the one-day review and administer the written and performance examinations (see COVID-19 updates below). Examinations are graded by the American Concrete Institute (ACI). Technicians successfully completing both the written and performance examinations will receive a certificate and wallet card from ACI certifying them as ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician – Grade I (certification expires in 5 years). For recertification, ACI requires successful completion of both the performance and written examinations. Individuals may register for “ Full Exam Only”, however it is recommended that they register for the “Accelerated Course,” to review the current standards covered on the exam.

IMPORTANT COVID-19 UPDATE:

Virtual Review Sessions: Certification review sessions are currently being conducted virtually via Microsoft Teams.  You do not have to have a Microsoft Teams subscription to participate.  Instructions will be sent prior to the start of the course on how to use the virtual format. Ohio Concrete instructors will lead the review exactly as they would in-person, but you’ll be following along from the comfort of your computer or iPad at your location. Participants will have the ability to ask questions in real time. It will not be a pre-recorded presentation. Registrants will receive a code to attend virtually a few days prior to the start of the review session.

Exam Sessions:  All certification exam sessions will be staggered in groups of 10 or less to comply with social distancing requirements. Safety is our number one priority, so we will be adhering to social distancing rules the entire day. A questionnaire form will be required by each examinees including a temperature check prior to the exam. Also, all examinees must wear a mask (face covering nose and mouth) upon arrival and keep it on throughout the exam until they depart. You will be notified which group you are in prior to the exam day.

  • Group A arrives at test site first (7:30 a.m.) and is split again in half (2 groups @ 10)
    • 10 will go to a classroom and take the written exam first and the other 10 will take the performance (hands-on) exam in an inside lab or outside setting if available
      • There will be 5 stations set-up for the performance exam that offers distancing and individuals not at a station testing will be waiting in a holding space that also offers adequate spacing…they will get rotated in through all the stations
    • Once the performance exams are completed for the first round the 10 individuals from each group will swap and take their other exam (written or performance)
  • Group B arrives second (11:30 am) and is split in half as above
    • Same procedures as above…”
