ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician
Grade I (2-days) 6 CPD hrs.
|
|
The
ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade I course will
benefit all personnel involved in testing fresh concrete.
ASTM C94, ACI 301 and C31 all require that technicians
making and curing concrete test specimens for acceptance be
certified ACI Concrete Field Testing Technicians. A working
knowledge of the following ASTM Standards is required for
this certification program:
C-172 Sampling Freshly Mixed Concrete;
C-143 Slump of Hydraulic Cement Concrete;
C-138 Density (Unit Weight), Yield, & Air Content
(Gravimetric) of Concrete;
C-231 Air Content of Freshly Mixed Concrete by Pressure
Method;
C-173 Air Content of Freshly Mixed Concrete by Volumetric
Method;
C-31 Making and Curing Concrete Test Specimens in the Field;
C-1064 Temperature of Freshly Mixed Portland Cement
Concrete.
The Ohio Ready Mixed Concrete Association's (ORMCA’s)
Professional Engineers conduct the one-day review. The
written and performance examinations are administered by a
Professional Engineer and graded by the American Concrete
Institute (ACI).
Technicians successfully completing both the written and
performance examinations will receive a certificate and
wallet card from ACI certifying them as an ACI Concrete
Field Testing Technician - Grade I (certification expires in
5 years).
ACI requires successful completion of both the performance
and written examinations, for individuals desiring
recertification. Individuals may register for “Exam Only”,
however it is recommended that they register for the
“Accelerated Course,” to review the current standards
covered on the exam.

ACI Concrete Flatwork Finisher/Technician
(2-days) 6 CPD hrs.
This course is designed to provide a basis for
certifying experienced concrete finishers. It is
intended to alleviate misunderstandings related to
proper field practices, increase owner satisfaction with
concrete construction and prepare the concrete industry
for future specifications that require certification of
flatwork finishers. Craftsmen who can demonstrate their
skills and credentials through ACI certification will
increase their own opportunities as well as contribute
to the advancement of the industry and the increased
demand for quality concrete flatwork.
Individuals successfully completing the examination
requirements will achieve certification from the
American Concrete Institute as an ACI Concrete Flatwork
Finisher. Individuals who pass the written examination,
but have not satisfied the performance (work experience)
evaluation requirement, will be granted certification as
an ACI Concrete Flatwork Technician. Certification as a
Concrete Flatwork Finisher or Concrete Flatwork
Technician is valid for 5 years.

NRMCA Pervious Concrete Contractor Certification
(1 day) 2 CPD
This program is designed to
educate, train and certify concrete finishers in
pervious concrete placement. ORMCA engineers will
provide a half day classroom training necessary for
the knowledge in pervious concrete materials and
proper placement procedures in preparation for the
written ‘Technician’ examination following the
training. NRMCA can provide certification on these
two levels:
1) Pervious Concrete Technician, which requires
passing a written exam. A Pervious Concrete
Technician is a person who is knowledgeable about
proper procedures to place, consolidate, finish,
edge, joint, cure and protect pervious concrete
pavements, but who lacks sufficient work experience
to qualify as a concrete craftsman.
2) Pervious Concrete Craftsman, which requires
passing the same exam plus documented work
experience in placing pervious concrete pavement
successfully. Also as a prerequisite, the ACI
Flatwork Finisher certification is required to
ensure that the craftsman knows the basic level of
care needed for flatwork construction.
The program will include the following areas of
concrete pavement construction:
• Pervious concrete materials and mix proportioning
• Proper selection and use of tools and equipment
• General design principles of pervious concrete
pavements
• Pervious concrete construction and quality control
• Maintenance and troubleshooting
Recertification is required every five years and
requires successful completion of a written
examination. If previous craftsman certification has
been expired by more than six months,
recertification will require completion of both the
performance/work experience affidavit and the
written exam.
